Simple tricks for better storage of vegetables

Vegetables are an important part of our recipes. Unfortunately, it still tends to be the case that fresh raw materials lose their quality faster. That is why we have asked Orm Oja together with our kitchen team to put together little tricks on how to preserve the vegetables we use on a daily basis for longer.
SUMMER PUMPKIN
Zucchini, zucchini or courgette - many names for a good child! Zucchini is best stored unwashed in the refrigerator in the vegetable drawer. You can also pack zucchini in a plastic bag, where it can stay fresh for quite a long time.
EGGPLANT
Did you know that eggplant comes from warm climates? Therefore, eggplant does not like the cold and can be stored well at room temperature rather than in direct sunlight.
CUCUMBER
A cool environment is suitable for cucumbers, so cucumbers can be stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Did you also know that cucumbers start to ripen first from the ends? Therefore, if the cucumber starts to become soft at the ends, it does not mean that the middle part is not edible.
TOMATO
Don't put tomatoes in the fridge! The cold of the refrigerator makes the surface of the tomato dry and sucks out all the good flavor. You can put the tomato in the fridge only if it is already very ready and you want to slow down its ripening for a short time.
PAKSOI
Pak choi, bok choi, pak choy or Chinese turnip has its roots - as the name betrays - in China, and it is best preserved unwashed in a plastic bag in the refrigerator's vegetable drawer.
If the paksoi looks a bit tired, pull off the outer leaves and place ice directly on the root part or put the entire paksoi in a bowl filled with cold water - this way the paksoi will quickly regain its former appearance.
PEPPER
Peppers can be stored unwashed dry in a plastic bag in the refrigerator in the vegetable drawer. Also, do not seal the bag completely airtight, this will accelerate the deterioration of the peppers.
TURKEY BEANS
Turkey beans keep best if stored in a plastic bag lined with a damp paper towel in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator. The grip bag with which we pack our beans is also suitable for this purpose.
